The telescope can continually see the sun as it moves throughout the day thanks to an arrangement known as a coelostat.

When scientists study the Sun they often use something called spectral lines, like Calcium II 8542 Å and Helium I 10830 Å to figure out what the magnetic field is like in different parts of the Sun’s atmosphere. But these tools have some limits, meaning they don’t always work perfectly for studying every feature of the sun.

Sanjeev Raina Appointed ITBP Additional Director General

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has named Sanjeev Raina, a senior officer from the 1987 batch, as its Additional Director General (ADG).He will be responsible for overseeing the forces along the India-China Line of Actual Control (LAC). This is a significant event because he is only the second officer not from the Indian Police Service (IPS) to reach this high rank in the history of the ITBP.

Why This Appointment Is Important

The primary goals of the ITBP when it was established in 1962 were border protection and mountain warfare. The ADG role is typically performed by IPS officers who typically have more experience in law enforcement. Raina’s elevation to the rank of ADG demonstrates the growing regard and acknowledgment of the ITBP’s own officers’ abilities and knowledge particularly those who have devoted many years to direct field work in difficult circumstances.

Sanjeev Raina’s Career

Sanjeev Raina began working for the ITBP in November 1987 and has over 30 years of experience there. He has had significant roles throughout his career in some of the most delicate and challenging regions of India, including Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Establishing the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare (CIJW) school in Mahidanda, Uttarakhand is one of his greatest accomplishments. This school has been important for improving the training of ITBP personnel particularly in techniques for fighting in mountainous terrain. Raina would be in charge of the ITBP troops stationed along the LAC in her capacity as the ADG of the Western Command, which is headquartered in Chandigarh. This covers regions such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh. In addition, he will oversee troops in other areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Delhi, and Punjab, making sure the armed forces are capable of carrying out their tasks with efficiency. Despite the significance of this appointment, Raina’s tenure in this position will be brief. He will be retiring in a little more than a month. After he retires Inspector General (IG) Jaspal Singh will take over as the new ADG.

One of India’s Central Armed Police Forces is the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) which was founded in 1962. Securing the 3,488-kilometer Indo-Tibetan border is its primary responsibility. The ITBP is especially known for operating in very high-altitude areas, with some units stationed at altitudes over 21,000 feet. The ITBP was the first Indian force to reach the war front in Kashmir during the 1965 war.
