12 New Industrial Smart Cities Are Approved by the Union Cabinet

The Union Cabinet has approved a ₹28,602 crore budget to construct 12 new industrial smart cities in various states. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled this proposal with the intention of increasing homegrown manufacturing.

Objective

The objective is to use the Golden Quadrilateral infrastructure concept to build a network of industrial smart cities in order to serve the “Viksit Bharat” vision. The development of these 12 cities will cost ₹28,602 crore in total. It is anticipated that private sector investments will total ₹1.5 lakh crore. The manufacturing sector stands to gain significantly from the project which is anticipated to create up to 30 lakh indirect jobs and 10 lakh direct ones.

Core Principles

“Plug and Play” Model: Ready-to-use facilities will make it simpler for enterprises to operate in the cities.

The “Walk-to-Work” concept seeks to improve work-life balance by reducing transportation.

Urbanization Plans

The program places a strong emphasis on strategically designed urban growth to guarantee long-term expansion that sustains industry. These new cities which provide ready-to-use land and streamlined procedures for investors would assist India in joining global value chains. There will be a total of 20 cities when these 12 are added to the eight that are now under development. The first infrastructural projects like utilities and road connectivity are currently under progress. It is anticipated that this plan will raise the manufacturing sector’s GDP share in India, promoting stability and economic progress.

The Government of Uttar Pradesh Introduces a Divisive Social Media Policy

A new policy has been implemented by the Uttar Pradesh government to incentivize social media influencers to publicize its accomplishments and initiatives. Although influencers will be compensated for their posts, opposition parties and other organizations have strongly criticized the policy.

Government Goals

The concept aims to use social media to highlight government triumphs and create job possibilities. It entails contracting organizations and firms to develop and share content online, enhancing the visibility of government activities.

Influencer Payments

Influencers will be rewarded based on their number of followers.

₹5 lakh for X (formerly Twitter)

₹4 lakh for Facebook

₹3 lakh for Instagram

₹2 lakh for other platforms

On YouTube, payments range from₹8 lakh for videos to₹4 lakh for podcasts.

The government can take legal action against content it views harmful or unsuitable. This gives rise to worries over possible censorship and restrictions on free speech.

Opposition Reactions

Opposition spokespeople and other critics contend that the strategy appears to be intended to stifle criticism and sway public opinion through influencer payments. Many internet influencers are concerned that instead of being viewed as independent voices, the policy may make them appear to be government sympathizers. It is feared that this may have an impact on open dialogue in public and democratic participation.

In 2025, ISRO’s Gaganyaan Mission will showcase the humanoid Vyomitra

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) intends to launch the Gaganyaan mission in 2025 which will include the unmanned robot Vyomitra. Known as a half-humanoid robot its purpose is to assist with space missions.

What Are Humanoids?

Robots that resemble humans in appearance and movement are called humanoids or half-humanoids. Vyomitra can move her neck, face and arms. These robots are mostly employed in space to carry out hazardous or repetitive jobs shielding humans from harm while they concentrate on critical scientific research.

Why is ISRO sending Vyomitra?

The Gaganyaan expedition will evaluate Vyomitra’s abilities as a technology prototype. Vyomitra will operate the control monitor systems inside the spacecraft and communicate with mission control on Earth. This will assist ISRO acquire critical knowledge about how space travel impacts humans.

How is Vyomitra’s skull designed?

Vyomitra’s skull is composed of a special lightweight aluminum alloy called AlSi10Mg, which is strong, flexible and can tolerate heat and mechanical stress. The skull is approximately 200mm x 200mm in size and weighs only 800 grams and it is meant to withstand the strong vibrations during a rocket launch.

How Was Vyomitra’s Skull Made?

The skull was created using additive manufacturing (AM) similar to 3D printing. This method allows for complex designs that reduce weight while maintaining strength which is very important for space missions. Low payload weight is critical in space travel because heavier loads require more fuel and larger rockets and using lightweight materials like AlSi10Mg makes the mission more efficient and cost-effective.

About ISRO

ISRO, the Indian Space Research Organization was founded in 1969.   Aryabhata the company’s first satellite, was launched in 1975.The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) developed the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) which successfully launched over 300 foreign satellites. India became the first Asian nation to reach Mars in 2014 with its Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan). The ISRO also developed the NavIC system for regional satellite navigation. The ISRO has its headquarters in Bengaluru and operates from several centers throughout India.

What is Vyomitra?

ISRO created Vyomitra, an AI-based humanoid, for space missions. It was first introduced in 2020. Vyomitra is designed to help astronauts by performing tasks and monitoring life systems. Its name means “space friend” in Sanskrit. Made with vehicles and sensors Vyomitra can mimic human moves and gestures. It can conduct experiments and even simulate human emotions helping prepare for future crewed missions to the moon and Mars.

Himachal Pradesh raises minimal Marriage Age for girls to 21

The Himachal Pradesh assembly passed a brand new regulation referred to as the Prohibition of infant Marriage (Himachal Pradesh modification) bill 2024. This regulation raises the minimum age for ladies to get married from 18 to 21 years. It updates the Prohibition of toddler Marriage (PCM) Act of 2006 to better address troubles associated with early marriage.

What Changes Does the New Bill Make?

The bill makes several important changes to the existing law:

New Definition of “Child”: The Bill now considers anyone under 21 years old, whether male or female, to be a “child.” Before the law made a distinction based on gender.

Superseding other laws: the brand new age limit of 21 will take precedence over any other legal guidelines, customs or practices that could conflict with it making sure that this age limit is carried out uniformly throughout the nation.

More Time to Annul a Child Marriage: The Bill gives people more time to challenge child marriages by extending the period of time they can annul (cancel) a child marriage from two to five years after becoming an adult.

For the bill to become law it needs approval from both the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and the President of India. Here’s how it works:

The bill is first sent to the governor who can either approve it or pass it on to the president for consideration. The President must approve it if the Governor forwards it to him particularly since the Bill modifies certain regulations that could be in conflict with current federal laws.

Why Was the Bill Introduced?

The main reasons for raising the marriage age are:

Enhancing Education and jobs: The Bill’s proponents contend that young marriages can prevent women from pursuing further education and establishing successful jobs.

Protecting Health: Early marriages can harm women’s health, as becoming a mother too early can lead to health problems. In an effort to improve the conditions for women to develop and thrive the Minister of Health Social Justice and Empowerment brought attention to these concerns.

The passing of this bill is a major step forward in combating child marriage and supporting women’s rights in Himachal Pradesh. The state intends to lessen the detrimental effects of early marriage on women’s education, health and general life possibilities by raising the marriage age and harmonizing it with other regulations.
